Epätoivon hetkiä - Moments of Desperation

Perjantai 3. syyskuuta oli tähän saakka epätoivoisin päivä. Silloin kulminoituivat kaikki ne vastoinkäymiset ja viiveet, jotka lähtivät liikkeelle siitä, että sähköasennusfirma tilasi väärän sähköpääkeskuksen ja uuden toimitusaika oli kolme kuukautta.

Parketin asennus oli aikataulutettu tälle viikolle. Ensin asentaja sairastui ja tilalle otettiin toinen asentaja tiistaina. Hän tuli paikalle parkettien ja työkoneiden kanssa puolilta päivin ja totesi suoralta kädeltä, että talossa on liian kylmää ja kosteata. Ennen kaikkea lattia oli kylmä ja vetänyt sysksyn tullen kosteutta sisään. Parketti vaatii tasaisen lämmön ja noin 41% kosteuden valussa. Asentaja soitti työnjohtajalleen, joka sanoi, että jos paikalle hommataan kolme voimakasta lämminilmapuhallinta, niin tilanne saatetaan saada korjatuksi perjantaihin mennessä. Hain puhaltimet, mutta liitännät kestävät vain yhden 9 KW ja yhden 3 KW puhaltimen. Asentaja saapui perjantaina ja totesi, ettei lattia ole vielä riittävän lämmin. Työnjohtaja saapui paikalle ja seurasi tiukkasanainen puhelu rakennuskonsultilleni, joka samalla on vastaava mestari. Vastaavani olisi asennuttanut parketin paikalle, vaikka työnjohtaja hyvin selvin sanoin kertoi, mitä parketille tapahtuu, kun lattialämpö laitetaan päälle. Minun olisi pitänyt vapauttaa parkettiliike kaikesta vastuusta, mitä en luonnollisestikaan tehnyt.
Lämpöfirma ei osoittanut minkäänlaista joustavuutta ja ilmoitti tulevansa kytkemään lämmön päälle heille ilmoitetun aikataulun mukaan viikolla 37.
Laadimme parkettifirman työnjohtajan kanssa uuden suunnitelman niin, että jos kaikki menee hyvin, parketti voidaan asentaa viikon 38 lopulla.

Ilmastointilaitteen asentaja ilmestyi samaan hötäkkään ja totesi, ettei hän voi asentaa ilmastoinnin keskusyksikköä paikalleen, koska teknisen tilan lattiaa ei vielä ole päällystetty Epoxilla.

Epoxin tekijän oli pitänyt saapua edellisen viikon torstaina, sitten perjantaina, sitten tämän viikon torstaina. Hän saapui paikalle ilmeisesti uhkauksien saattelemana perjantai-iltapäivällä. Mutta Epox vaatii kolme työstökerrosta ja parin päivän kuivumisajan. Siispä ilmastointilaite saadaan paikalle vasta ensi viikon keskiviikkona.

Kun sähköpääkeskus vihdoin saapui tämän viikon maanantaina, se oli kooltaan leveämpi kuin sille varattu paikka ja se oli asennettava toiselle seinälle. Kävi ilmi, että sähkömiehet olivat asentaneet sen paikalle, johon piti tulla vesimittari. Sähkö ja vesi eivät saa olla niin lähekkäin. Siispä paikalla olleiden putkimiesten piti porata teknisen tilan vastapäiseen nurkkaan uusi reikä, josta vesiliittymä tuotiin ylös tekniseen tilaan. Lisäksi sähkökeskus vie nyt tilan lisälämmönvaraajalta. Onneksi se on optio enkä minä sitä yksinäisenä ihmisenä ehkä tarvitse. Jos tarvitsen, se on asennettava autotallin puolelle ja putket tuotava paloseinän läpi.

Keittiö- ja märkätilakalusteiden toimituksessa on mennyt pieleen lähes kaikki mikä voi. Pesupöydän kivitaso oli mitoitettu väärin eivätkä altaat mahtuneet allaskaappiin. Uusiksi meni. Ylimmäinen kaappirivi jouduttiin laittamaan jälkitoimitukseen, koska korkeuden riittävyys oli tiukilla. Domus ottaa ovet alihankkijalta, joten ylärivin kaapit saavat ovensa joskus myöhemmin tulevaisuudessa.
Keittiön ja olohuoneen välisen vitriinin kaapit eivät satu oikeiksi joko mitoiltaan, väreiltään tai viimeistelyltään. Vielä yksi seinäkaappi on liian leveä, eikä asentaja saanut työtään loppuun siltä osin. Vitriiniin sijoitettavasta viinikaapista ei vielä ole mitään tietoa. Vieras-WC:n kalusteista puuttuu neljä vetonuppia.

Takan tekijällä oli koko kaunis kesä aikaa kiivetä ullakolle ja varmistaa millaiset ja minkä kokoiset piipunkappaleet hänen tulee tilata. Hän tilasi liian suuret hormit ja lisäksi tarvittiin kappale, jolla kierretään kattotuoli. Onneksi piipun tilaaminen oli takkamiehen asia, joten virheet ja mahdolliset kustannukset menevät hänen piikkiinsä.

Laattamies oli hyvin aktiivisesti tiedustelemassa, milloin hän voi tulla laatoittamaan keittiön, mutta katosi kuin tuhka tuuleen, kun sai rahansa edellisistä työvaiheista. Täytyy varmaan ajella hänen kotiportilleen tiedustelemaan, vieläkö hän tekee tämän keikan loppuun vai haetaanko uusi tekijä.

Saunantekijä saapui paikalle lauantaina, mutta hänen työnsä on nyt keskeytyksissä ja odottaa sähköasentajien armollista saapumista työmaalle.

Veljenpojaltani kuulin, että sähköfirma oli vasta viime viikolla tilaamassa valaisimia ja muita kalusteita. Syynä se, ettei ole varaa sitoa rahaa käyttöpääomaan. Ihmettelen suuresti. sillä ainakin minä olen voinut tilata kaikki materiaalit toimitukseen määrätylle viikolle tulevaisuudessa eikä se ole vaatinut kassavirtaa ennen kuin tavarat ovat olleet työmaalla.

Terassin ovi- ja ikkunareklamaatio hyväksyttiin nyt kuitenkin, mutta asian käsittely venyi lomien vuoksi niin pitkään, että uudet ikkunat ja ovilehdet eivät ehdi paikalleen tänä vuonna, tai eivät ainakaan ennen kuin minä lähden kohti Fijiä.

Tapetoinnin pitäisi alkaa tulevana maanantaina. Saapa nähdä, millaisia vastoinkäymisiä sillä hommalla on minulle taskussaan.

Friday 3rd September was the culmination of the disappointments so far. The problems were kick-started through the delivery of a wrong electricy central unit and the new one took 3 months to produce, hand and tailor made I was told. Mistake by the electrical installation firm which missed new instructions from my nephew.

Laying of the parquette boards was scheduled for the week 35, i.e. this last week. First the fitter caught cold and the site foreman had to draw in another man. He came around mid-day on Tuesday, checked the air temparature and felt the floor humidity and told me straight that the parquette boards cannot be installed in these conditions. The boards require even temparature in the cast concrete floor underneath and a maximum humidity of 41%. He phoned his work foreman who instructed me to get three heavy hot-air blowers and by those means we might be able to proceed on Friday. I got the blowers, but the fuses did not carry but one 9 KW and one 3 KW blower. By Friday the temparature in the space was 18.2 degrees but the concrete was still cold and apparently humid. A "capital letter" phone conversation followed between the work foreman, who had come over, and my project supervisor. My supervisor would have let the boards be fitted but I did not want to take the risk of ruining the expensive parquettes, on the advice of the foreman of the parquette company who would otherwise needed me to sign a release from warranty.

The thermal heating company did not show any flexibility and informed bluntly that they will come and connect the heating in the week 37 as scheduled.

We worked out an emergency plan with the foreman which aims at fitting the parquette boards towards the end of week 38 which still would enable me to move my belongings from the old house to the new one over the weekend 25-26 September.

The fitter of the ventilation central unit arrived also in to the chaotic situation on Friday. He noticed that he could not take the unit into the technical space because the Epox covering had not yet been laid on the floor. This entrepreneur had been scheduled to carry out his job already on Thursday the week before, then on Friday, then on Thursday this week. Apparently chased up by my supervisor he arrived hurriedly and painted the first layer primer. But Epox requires three layers on consequtive days and a two-days' drying period after. That is, the ventilation fitter has to return to the site on Wednesday next week.

When the electrical central unit finally arrived on Monday this last week, it was broader in width than planned and did not fit on the wall which was allocated for it in the technical space. The electrician simply without asking fitted the unit on the adjacent wall - which had been planned for the water meter! Water and electricity cannot be next to each others, so the plumbers had to drill through the floor in the opposite corner and take the water connection pipes to the technical space over there. In addition, the bigger electrical central unit takes the space from the additional warm water boiler. Luckily that is just an option and most likely I as a single person in the house will not need it. If so, the boiler has to be fitted in the garage and the pipelines taken through the firewall.

The delivery of the kitchen and bathroom furniture has failed in every aspect possible. The company has now trucked three times new cupboards. The joiner was week before last ready to give up his contract but understood my desperation and came back this week. Still the upper cupboards of the glass vitrine between the kitchen and the living room had wrong measurements and the joiner could not complete his job. Next week he has another job to do. We will see if the kitchen gets ready before I lock up the house. The wine cooler has not even arrived and will need to be fitted into the vitrine as well.

The builder of the open fire place had all the warm summer days time to climb up to the attick to check which kind of chimney he needs. He did not do so and now the chimney parts he ordered are too big to go through the roof structures. Luckily that mistake is not on my account according to our contract, it's just the time schedule which is pressing on me.
The fitter of the ceramic tiles was very actively phoning me about when he can come and lay the tiles in the kitchen - until he got his payment for the job done so far. After that he vanished like ash into the wind.

Installation of the sauna started on Saturday but had to be interrupted in the wait for the electricians giving me the honour of arriving on the site and installing the required wiring.
My nephew informed me that the electrical installation company had started to order the lamps and other fittings only upon return from holidays, reason being not wanting to invest unnecessary funds in working capital. At least I have been able to order all materials to be delivered in agreed weeks in the future and those deliveries have required cash-flow only afterwards.

At least my complaints of the doors and windows opening to the verandah were accepted, but the processing of the issue took so much time that the delivery of the new ones cannot be expected before I leave. Next year's jobs!

Wall papering is scheduled to start on the coming Monday and will take two weeks. We will see which kind of surprises this job has in its pocket for me.

Koko kesän oli aurinkoa mutta sinä päivänä kun kalusteet toimitettiin, satoi kaatamalla - All the summer we had sun shine but on the very day when the kitchen was delivered it was pooring rain.

Siitä onkin kulunut aikaa, kun olen ehtinyt päivittää kuvia ja tilannetiedotuksia tänne rakennusblogiin. Maantapa näytti olevan yhä jopa 2000-luvulla, että heinäkuussa suomalainen rakennusmies on lomilla oli sitten homma kesken tai ei. Piti puhua isoilla kirjaimilla sekä projektikonsultille että timpurille, jottei projektin perälauta alkanut vuotaa aivan hervottomasti. Käsittämättömän lepsua touhua, selitykseksi tarjottiin vain että näin se on aina ollut raksalla ja näin se tulee aina olemaan. Tällaisella otteella maailmalla oltaisiin ulos busineksistä alta aikayksikön. Oli todellinen kulttuurien yhteentörmäys, oma kokemukseni maailmalta ja suomalaisen rakennusmestarin perinnäinen lepsuus.

No nyt on puhuttu isoilla kirjaimilla, laadittu yksityiskohtainen aikataulu loppumetreille ja otin itse valvontaohjat käsiin. Mistähän oikein projektikonsultilleni maksan? Mitään ei tapahdu, ellen ole koko ajan potkimassa tiedät mihin. Piti toistaa muutamaan kertaan kaikille osapuolille, että minä lähden maasta 29. syyskuuta ja silloin ovet menevät lukkoon. Siihen mennessä talo on saatava sisäpuolelta siihen pisteeseen, että voin kantaa tavarat vanhasta talosta uuteen.

Timpuri kaivoi apumiehen töihin äkkiä viime viikolla, kun riskinä oli menettää urakka. Apumies sai tehtyä muutaman neliön katon panelointia ja häipyi pitkälle viikonlopulle koti-Viroon. Timpuri itse viihtyi raksalla yhden päivän tällä viikolla, mutta apumies kertoi, että hän tekee töitä läpi viikonlopun. Kiire sisäkaton paneloinnissa johtuu siitä, että keittiökaapit menevät kattoon saakka eikä siis yläkaappeja voi asentaa ennen kuin katto on valmis.

Domuksen myöhästyminen toimituksessaan viikolla, pelasti timpurin pinteestä, mutta toisaalta teki aikataulusta entistä tiukemman. Keittiö- ja märkätilakalusteet tulivat tiistaina 10 elokuuta. Domuksellakaan kaikki ei mennyt putkeen ja asentaja on rekisteröinyt reklamaatioita sitä mukaa, kun hän on purkanut pakkauksia. Loimaan kiven pesupöytätaso ei sovi allaskaapin kanssa yhteen, WC:hen toimitettiin alakaapit laatikostojen sijaan ja sitä rataa. Keittiössä on tilaa ylimmäiselle kaappiriville vain 44 cm kun kaappien korkeus on 45 cm. Onneksi päätettiin mittamiehen kanssa, että ko kaapit menevät jälkitoimitukseen. Nyt sitten ratkaisua etsitään. Saa nähdä löytyykö se ajoissa.

Sähkömiehet sain hälytettyä työmaalle puoleksi päiväksi maanantaina ja herrat kertoivat suovansa minulle kunnian tavata heitä seuraavan kerran parin viikon päästä. Ihan yksi lysti minullle, firman sopimuksen liitteenä on aikataulu ja jos se lipeää, eivät maksutkaan luista kuten tähän saakka.

Ainoa urakoitsija, jossa on ainesta, on tähän mennessä ollut laatoittaja. Tosin hänellä oli sellainen teho päällä, ettei hän ehtinyt aina kysyä, miten päin laatta pitäisi liimata. No pahempaa vahinkoa ei päässyt tapahtumaan ja jälki on teknisesti hyvää. Voin suositella.

Teri-Talot nukkui (=oli lomalla) kahden viikon vastineaikansa yli reklamaatiooni ja minun oli pakko toimia, jotta uudet ikkunat saadaan paikalleen ennen parketin asennusta. Kuka vastaa ja millä summalla jää selvitettäväksi erikseen.

Joka tapauksessa, kuten kuvista näkyy, ollaan siirrytty seinien sisältä seinien pinnalle.

It has taken some time since I last time updated pictures and situation report on Villa Koivuranta blog. I had a "cultural" confrontation with the construction people in Finland. The tradition seems to continue even in the 20th century that people are on holidays in July notwithstanding weather the job has been done or not. I had to speak in capital letters to my construction consultant and the carpenter who's quotation we accepted for the second phase of the timber works. We were en route to Estonia with Mum when I got the message that the carpenter will continue on leave until 16th August. That did not fit into the time schedule at all but to my surprise it did not seem to disturb my project consultant the least. I negotiated with our friends in Estonia a fall-back arrangement for their son and another person to come over to Finland and work for me. That opened a negotiation window for me with the carpenter and when he realised that his contract is at stake, he hurried to dig out his workman, also from Estonia. The guy came to the site last week for two days but then disappeared for a long weekend back home. The carpenter himself drove down from the very top of Finland on Monday and got his "bones" to the site on Thursday- for one day. Never mind, I had a "instruction lesson" with him on losing and winning back trust and he got his workman on the job through the weekend to get the ceiling panels installed.

The reason why the ceiling has to be completed speedily is that the kitchen cupboards reach upto the ceiling. Domus, the company which delivers the kitchen and bath room furniture, was late by one week with its delivery which actually rescued the situation for the carpenter.

Same nonchalance features the electricians. I had to tell in simple words some facts of the business life to the managing director (my nephew's school mate) who understood the message and got his guys to the site for a half-day on Monday. These heros however told me that I will have the honour of their efforts again in two weeks' time only.

Teri-Talot, the pre-fab house factory, slept over the deadline to respond to my formal complaint concerning the windows and I had to take action this week. I ordered the two new windows which take from the living room to the verandah. Who pays and how much will be sorted out later, but the new windows have to be installed before the flooring can be installed, and that is scheduled to start in the week 35.

All in all, nonetheless, as you can see from the pictures, we have progressed from working inside the walls to installing things to the surface. I have told to my project consultant that the house interior has to be ready to take in my belongings from the old house by the weekend 25-26 September and the doors will be locked up on 29th Sep.

Märkätilojen laatoitus hyvässä vauhdissa - Fixing of ceramic tiles progressing well

Laattamestari Pasi sai vesieristykset ja muut tasoitushommat valmiiksi viime viikolla ja kodinhoitohuoneen laatatkin jo paikoilleen. Sunnuntai-iltaan mennessä pitäisi kaikkien märkätilojen seinien olla laatotettu valmiiksi.
Jouduin jälleen kerran toteamaan ettei ole halpaa ja hyvää. Lattiavalu lainehtii kuin Päijänne myrskyllä ja kaikki lattiapinnat on tasoitettava ennen kuin niille voidaan laittaa mitään päällystettä. Kyllähän se laattamiehiltä käy, lisätyö ja -hinta vain, mutta mutta mihinkähän uuteen ongelmaan törmätään parkettien asennuksessa. Terassin ikkunoiden alustahan on jo tiukka paikka sinänsä. Joka tapauksessa, Pasin apumies levitteli tasotetta keittiön lattialle tänään, joten lattialaatatkin asettuvat paikoilleen Jyväskylän rallin jälkeen. Pasi on siellä kartturina yhdelle rallikuskille ensi viikolla.

The workmen got the water insulation and other prepratory works done last week for fixing the ceramic tiles on the walls. Laundry room was tiled last week and Pasi, the work master, aims at completing the walls by Sunday night.
I once again got to learn that there is nothing called cheap and good. The floors have waves like the Botnic Sea in a storm and all the floor surfices have to smoothed out before any coverings can be worked on. It's ok for the bricklayers, and they already laid the smoothing material on the kitchen floor, but but how will the parquette guys manage the new problem!? We already know that getting the parquettes underneath the large verandah window frames is a challenge.

Anyway, the floor tiles will find their places in due course. Next week there will be a silence at the site workmen being on leave and the bick master Pasi reading map instructions to a ralley driver at the famous Jyväskylä Ralley.

Tasoitustyöt ja pintamaalaus - smoothing out and first painting of the walls

Viime ja tällä viikolla seinät on tasoitettu ja maalattu ensimmäisen kerran. Tämä näkymä on keittiöstä olohuoneen läpi makuuhuonesiipeen. Minun oma makuuhuoneeni on tosin tuon vasemmalla näkyvän seinän takana. Kyllä tuli valoa tilaan kun seinät maalattiin.

Petri, rakennuskonsulttini muistutti minua jo kolmannen kerran, että tapetit pitäisi nyt valita ja saada työmaalle. Miksi ihmeessä jo nyt? Ainahan tapetit on liimattu vasta ihan loppumetreillä. Eikä minulla ole pienintäkään ideaa millaiset tapetit ja millainen väriskaala. Ensin pitää nähdä parketti ja katto ainakin osittain asennettuna ennen kuin voin visualisoida miltä seinien pitäisi näyttää.

This and previous week the walls were smoothed out and surficed with first paint. This view is from the kitchen area through the living room. Fire place will be at the wall in the middle, library to the right and guest/children's bedrooms to the left. It was amazing how much light a simple white paint brought into the space.

My construction consultant Petri reminded me today for the third time that it would be time to select and order the wall papers. I wonder why already now? To my experience wall papers are fixed amongst last jobs. I haven't a slightest idea about the colour and design of what I possibly would want to have. I told him that I first have to see the parquette and the ceiling panels installed, at least partially, to get any sparks of ideas.

Tänään sain myös vihdoin reklamaatiot terassin ovista ja ikkunoista lähtemään. Tylsä juttu, mutta pakko tehdä, jotta saa täyttä vastinetta kovalla työllä ja kieltäymyksillä ansaituille rahoille.

Today I also mailed the complaints on the doors and windows opening to the verandah. Silly thing, but had to be done, otherwise I won't get full value for my hard earned monies.

Vanha talo, jossa istuskelen nyt, varjostaa näkymää, mutta sehän poistuu pilaamasta maisemaa, ehkä jo talven aikana. Joitakin puita poistuu lehvistöineen rantarinteestä, kun vanha talo antaa tilaa niiden kaatamiselle. Arvatenkin mieli on täynnä haaveita siitä, kuinka joskus istun kirjaston ikkunan ääressä ja kirjoittelen uusia kuulumisia tähän blogiin tai ehkäpä lueskelen elektronista kirjaa tai vaikkapa yllätän kirjoittelemalla muistelmiani.

The old house where I am sitting now will disappear in due course from spoiling the scenery. A few trees will also be fell from the slope to the lake when the old house has been demolished. You bet I'm dreaming of the day when I am sitting at my computer in the library, looking at the lake, typing new messages to this blog or reading an electronic book, or perhaps even writing my memories.

Oh yes, still something. The guys who will fix the ceramic tiles started their work today as well. They came already before the rooster queeks and smoothed out the walls to the dressing room to sauna and to the bath. In the next edition I should be able to gove you pictures of the designs - just keep on reading!

Sähkömiehet ovat laskeneet, että kattoon tulee yhteensä 66 valopistettä! Oletettavasti koko taloon eikä vain ja ainoastaan olohuoneeseen.
Talon ikkunat toimitettiin kaikki avautuvina vaikka niiden piti olla kiinteitä lukuunottamatta makuuhuoneita. Terassin oven ikkunat eivät ulotu lattiaan saakka samassa linjassa isojen ikkunoiden kanssa. Siinäkin meillä on erimielisyys toimituksen oikeellisuudesta. Tuli asiaa kuluttaja-asiamiehn toimistoon, koska talotoimittaja ja ovitoimittaja eivät hyväksy reklamaatiotani. Toisaalta, aika hyvin on mennyt toistaiseksi, jos reklamaatiot jäävät näihin kahteen - ja näidenkin kanssa voin elää.
The electricians have counted 66 light points in the ceiling! I assume that covers the full house and not only the living room. All the windows were delivered as opening ones whereas my order was fixed ones except in the bed rooms. The window glass in the double doors to verrandah does not follow the line of the adjacent big windows. I have submitted my claims to the contractors but surely they have not accepted my complaints. Have to pay a visit to the Consumer Advice Centre and see if I can win my case with their support. On the other hand, I can live with these shortcomings and think that I am doing quite well if the failures remain as only two.

Juhannustauko rakentamisesta - break from construction works

Talon rakentamisesta pidettiin paussia juhannuksena Ukonselän mökillä. Ilma oli suhteellisen siedettävä ja vedetkin jo uimalämpöisiä - ainakin saunasta käsin.

I had a break from the construction works over Mid-Summer weekend. The weather was acceptable, though a bit cool, and the water temparature pleasant enough for a splash in, at least directly from the heat os the sauna.

Lattia valettu ja väliseinien teko menossa - floors cast and interior walls being built

Lattialämmitysputket asennettuna ja odottamassa lattian valua. Valun piti alunperin tapahtua 17 tai 18 toukokuuta, sitten tiistaina 25 toukokuuta. Betoniauto oli tontilla tiistaiaamuna kuten piti, mutta pumppuautoa ei näkynyt missään. Onneksi on NOKIA ja parin puhelun jälkeen pumppuauto löytyi Otalammen Kotoniementieltä, jonne se oli uponnut kapealle polulle. Valamaan päästiin vihdoin torstaina ja timpurit palasivat työmaalle tänään maanantaina. Nyt ollaan noin kaksi viikkoa aikataulusta jäljessä. Timpuri tosin vakuutti että hän saa homman valmiiksi nopeastikin, mutta lattian kuivuminen vie oman aikansa ja voi olla, että parketin asennusta pitää siirtää myöhemmäksi.

Floor heating tubes were installed on Monday 24 May and the site was ready for casting of the floor (which initially should have taken place on 17th or 18th May). However, the pumping truck drove to a wrong address and got stuck in the muddy small road. The floor was finally cast on Thursday and the carpenters returned to work today, Monday. We are now two weeks late from the schedule but the guys are telling me that they can catch up. May be, but the floor has to dry up before any tiles and parquettues can be laid on top of it. Looks like I have to postpone those works until beginning of August.

The carpenters started to build the bed room walls today. The interior walls have to be so far ready by Friday that the kitchen people can come and check the measurements for their delivery of cupboards etc.

Katto päällä ja sisätyöt aloitettu - Roof installed and interior works started

Ehtipä vierähtää aikaa Villa Koivurannan päivitysten välillä. Oli tähdellisempää viettää niin paljon aikaa kuin mahdollista isän kanssa ja käydä katsomassa häntä päivittäin sairaalassa. Rakennustyöt edistyivät siitä huolimatta ammattimiesen turvin.
Vesikatto saatiin päälle ilman suurempia sateita, mutta räntää ja rakeita kyllä satoi A-Tiilen miesten selkään. Onneksi seinät oli suojattu muoveilla ja tiilien latominen kävi nopsasti, joten rakenteet eivät päässeet kostumaan.
Välikaton alaslaskut on tehty ja nyt lattiaa valmistellaan valua varten. Valun piti alkaa 17.5. mutta ollaan noin viikon verran jäljessä aikataulusta.

Time has flown from the previous update on Villa Koivuranta building blog. It was more important for me to spend as much time as possible with Dad and to attend to him at home and in the hospitals. The construction works continued well with the professional equippe.
The roof was laid in hail and wet snow fall but the men were brave and completed the works swiftly so that the structures did not get wet. They were covered by plastic sheets anyway, so all went well finally.
Ceiling structures have been completed and now the floor insulation, under-floor piping, electrical works and floor heating are being installed in preparation for casting the cement surface of the floor. The casting was scheduled to start on 17th May but we are one week late in the works.

Kattotuolit asennettu - roof structures completed

Kattotuolit saatiin asennettua paikoilleen maanantaina 12 huhtikuuta ja tänään tiistaina tulee tiilikuorma. Kattotiilien asennus alkaa keskiviikkona.

Placing of roof structures was completed on Monday 12 April and the roof tiles are delivered today. Their installation starts on Wednesday.

Ulkoseinät asennettu - outside walls installed

Ulkoseinät toimitettiin tänään ja nostettin paikalleen suoraan kuormasta. Kolme perävaunullista saapui aamu-seitsemästä lähtien ja ilta kuuteen mennessä homma oli tehty. Ulkoapäin tämähän alkaa näyttää jo talolta, mutta sisällä sitä rahaa vasta palaakin.

Vaikka tilaa on yli hehtaarin, niin perävaunun kääntämiset piti tehdä nosturin avulla.

Takkamestarin kanssa oli tänään ensimmäinen tapaaminen. Työmaakäynti sovittiin ensi maanantai-iltaan.

Pre-fabricated walls were delivered today and lifted directly to their places from the trailers. Looking from outside, the site starts to look like a house already. Nonetheless, much more money will be burnt to get the inside done.

Eventhough there is more than one ha, the space got too tight for the trucks and the trailers had to be turned using the heavy weight crane.

Today I also had first negotiation with a brick-layer from whom I intend to get a goof bid to build the open fire place. Meeting on the site was scheduled for Monday pm next week.

Kattotuolien toimitus - delivery of roof structures

Vaiheen kaksi, eli varsinaisen talon pystytys alkoi tänään 7.4.2010 kattotuolien toimituksella. Huomenaamulla jo ennen seitsemää tulee seinäkuorma ja seinien pystytys alkaa saman tien.

Sähköurakan kävin allekirjoittamassa Terawattin kanssa eilen. Ilmanvaihto- ja vesi-viemäriurakat ovat sopimuksen allekirjoitusta paitsi. Lattiavalu on tarjouskierroksessa, mutta saatiin vain yksi tarjous. Keittiötilauksen vahvistin tänään puhelimitse ja huomenna käyn allekirjoittamassa tilausvahvistuksen.

Lunta on vielä aika paljon maassa, mutta aurinko haihduttaa ja sade sulattaa. Vanhaa taloa lämmitin tänään varovasti muutamalla pesällisellä takassa ja hellassa. Toistaiseksi asustan Sirkan luona, mutta enköhän vapun aikoihin jo tarkene yöpyä Koivurannassa. Säistä riippuu.

Tästä se alkaa kuuden kuukauden hektinen aika. Jännittää melkoisesti, mitä kaikkea kommellusta ja vastoinkäymistä jälleen edessä onkaan.

Phase two of the construction started today 7th April with delivery of the roof structures. Walls will be delivered early tomorrow morning (before 7 am they told me) and will be transferred directly from the truck to their final places.

Yesterday I signed the contract for electrical works and finalised the kitchen design with all cupboards and equipments, order to be signed tomorrow. Ventilation and water&sewage work contracts have been awarded and are pending signature. Tender process for floor foundation (cast layer which comes under the wooden flooring) terminated before Easter but we got only one offer.

As you can see from the pictures, we still have some snow but the sun shine will get it evaporated and the forecasted rain will melt the rest. I was warming up the old house by keeping fire in the owen and in the open fire place. For the time being I am staying at my sisters place but hope to move into the old house by 1st May.

A busy time for me for the next 6 months. I'm excited and terribly anxious about all the hiccups which are waiting for me around the corner.
