Märkätilojen laatoitus hyvässä vauhdissa - Fixing of ceramic tiles progressing well

Laattamestari Pasi sai vesieristykset ja muut tasoitushommat valmiiksi viime viikolla ja kodinhoitohuoneen laatatkin jo paikoilleen. Sunnuntai-iltaan mennessä pitäisi kaikkien märkätilojen seinien olla laatotettu valmiiksi.
Jouduin jälleen kerran toteamaan ettei ole halpaa ja hyvää. Lattiavalu lainehtii kuin Päijänne myrskyllä ja kaikki lattiapinnat on tasoitettava ennen kuin niille voidaan laittaa mitään päällystettä. Kyllähän se laattamiehiltä käy, lisätyö ja -hinta vain, mutta mutta mihinkähän uuteen ongelmaan törmätään parkettien asennuksessa. Terassin ikkunoiden alustahan on jo tiukka paikka sinänsä. Joka tapauksessa, Pasin apumies levitteli tasotetta keittiön lattialle tänään, joten lattialaatatkin asettuvat paikoilleen Jyväskylän rallin jälkeen. Pasi on siellä kartturina yhdelle rallikuskille ensi viikolla.

The workmen got the water insulation and other prepratory works done last week for fixing the ceramic tiles on the walls. Laundry room was tiled last week and Pasi, the work master, aims at completing the walls by Sunday night.
I once again got to learn that there is nothing called cheap and good. The floors have waves like the Botnic Sea in a storm and all the floor surfices have to smoothed out before any coverings can be worked on. It's ok for the bricklayers, and they already laid the smoothing material on the kitchen floor, but but how will the parquette guys manage the new problem!? We already know that getting the parquettes underneath the large verandah window frames is a challenge.

Anyway, the floor tiles will find their places in due course. Next week there will be a silence at the site workmen being on leave and the bick master Pasi reading map instructions to a ralley driver at the famous Jyväskylä Ralley.

Tasoitustyöt ja pintamaalaus - smoothing out and first painting of the walls

Viime ja tällä viikolla seinät on tasoitettu ja maalattu ensimmäisen kerran. Tämä näkymä on keittiöstä olohuoneen läpi makuuhuonesiipeen. Minun oma makuuhuoneeni on tosin tuon vasemmalla näkyvän seinän takana. Kyllä tuli valoa tilaan kun seinät maalattiin.

Petri, rakennuskonsulttini muistutti minua jo kolmannen kerran, että tapetit pitäisi nyt valita ja saada työmaalle. Miksi ihmeessä jo nyt? Ainahan tapetit on liimattu vasta ihan loppumetreillä. Eikä minulla ole pienintäkään ideaa millaiset tapetit ja millainen väriskaala. Ensin pitää nähdä parketti ja katto ainakin osittain asennettuna ennen kuin voin visualisoida miltä seinien pitäisi näyttää.

This and previous week the walls were smoothed out and surficed with first paint. This view is from the kitchen area through the living room. Fire place will be at the wall in the middle, library to the right and guest/children's bedrooms to the left. It was amazing how much light a simple white paint brought into the space.

My construction consultant Petri reminded me today for the third time that it would be time to select and order the wall papers. I wonder why already now? To my experience wall papers are fixed amongst last jobs. I haven't a slightest idea about the colour and design of what I possibly would want to have. I told him that I first have to see the parquette and the ceiling panels installed, at least partially, to get any sparks of ideas.

Tänään sain myös vihdoin reklamaatiot terassin ovista ja ikkunoista lähtemään. Tylsä juttu, mutta pakko tehdä, jotta saa täyttä vastinetta kovalla työllä ja kieltäymyksillä ansaituille rahoille.

Today I also mailed the complaints on the doors and windows opening to the verandah. Silly thing, but had to be done, otherwise I won't get full value for my hard earned monies.

Alla on pari kuvaa näkymästä järvelle. Vasen on kirjaston ikkunasta ja oikeanpuoleinen terassin ovelta. Vanha talo, jossa istuskelen nyt, varjostaa näkymää, mutta sehän poistuu pilaamasta maisemaa, ehkä jo talven aikana. Joitakin puita poistuu lehvistöineen rantarinteestä, kun vanha talo antaa tilaa niiden kaatamiselle. Arvatenkin mieli on täynnä haaveita siitä, kuinka joskus istun kirjaston ikkunan ääressä ja kirjoittelen uusia kuulumisia tähän blogiin tai ehkäpä lueskelen elektronista kirjaa tai vaikkapa yllätän kirjoittelemalla muistelmiani.

Below are two pictures of the view to the lake. The left ones gives a view from the library and the right one from the doors to the verandah. The old house where I am sitting now will disappear in due course from spoiling the scenery. A few trees will also be fell from the slope to the lake when the old house has been demolished. You bet I'm dreaming of the day when I am sitting at my computer in the library, looking at the lake, typing new messages to this blog or reading an electronic book, or perhaps even writing my memories.

Ai niin, ja laattamiehetkin ovat jo töissä. Kävivät kukonlaulun aikaan aamulla tasottamassa pukuhuoneen ja pesuhuoneen seinät. Seuraavassa "numerossa" on jo varmaan kuvia kaakeleista, siispä seuraa sivustoa!

Oh yes, still something. The guys who will fix the ceramic tiles started their work today as well. They came already before the rooster queeks and smoothed out the walls to the dressing room to sauna and to the bath. In the next edition I should be able to gove you pictures of the designs - just keep on reading!

Sähkö- ja ilmastointityöt käynnissä - electrical and ventilation installation in progress

Sähkömiehet ovat laskeneet, että kattoon tulee yhteensä 66 valopistettä! Oletettavasti koko taloon eikä vain ja ainoastaan olohuoneeseen.
Talon ikkunat toimitettiin kaikki avautuvina vaikka niiden piti olla kiinteitä lukuunottamatta makuuhuoneita. Terassin oven ikkunat eivät ulotu lattiaan saakka samassa linjassa isojen ikkunoiden kanssa. Siinäkin meillä on erimielisyys toimituksen oikeellisuudesta. Tuli asiaa kuluttaja-asiamiehn toimistoon, koska talotoimittaja ja ovitoimittaja eivät hyväksy reklamaatiotani. Toisaalta, aika hyvin on mennyt toistaiseksi, jos reklamaatiot jäävät näihin kahteen - ja näidenkin kanssa voin elää.
The electricians have counted 66 light points in the ceiling! I assume that covers the full house and not only the living room. All the windows were delivered as opening ones whereas my order was fixed ones except in the bed rooms. The window glass in the double doors to verrandah does not follow the line of the adjacent big windows. I have submitted my claims to the contractors but surely they have not accepted my complaints. Have to pay a visit to the Consumer Advice Centre and see if I can win my case with their support. On the other hand, I can live with these shortcomings and think that I am doing quite well if the failures remain as only two.

Juhannustauko rakentamisesta - break from construction works

Talon rakentamisesta pidettiin paussia juhannuksena Ukonselän mökillä. Ilma oli suhteellisen siedettävä ja vedetkin jo uimalämpöisiä - ainakin saunasta käsin.

I had a break from the construction works over Mid-Summer weekend. The weather was acceptable, though a bit cool, and the water temparature pleasant enough for a splash in, at least directly from the heat os the sauna.

Lattia valettu ja väliseinien teko menossa - floors cast and interior walls being built

Lattialämmitysputket asennettuna ja odottamassa lattian valua. Valun piti alunperin tapahtua 17 tai 18 toukokuuta, sitten tiistaina 25 toukokuuta. Betoniauto oli tontilla tiistaiaamuna kuten piti, mutta pumppuautoa ei näkynyt missään. Onneksi on NOKIA ja parin puhelun jälkeen pumppuauto löytyi Otalammen Kotoniementieltä, jonne se oli uponnut kapealle polulle. Valamaan päästiin vihdoin torstaina ja timpurit palasivat työmaalle tänään maanantaina. Nyt ollaan noin kaksi viikkoa aikataulusta jäljessä. Timpuri tosin vakuutti että hän saa homman valmiiksi nopeastikin, mutta lattian kuivuminen vie oman aikansa ja voi olla, että parketin asennusta pitää siirtää myöhemmäksi.

Floor heating tubes were installed on Monday 24 May and the site was ready for casting of the floor (which initially should have taken place on 17th or 18th May). However, the pumping truck drove to a wrong address and got stuck in the muddy small road. The floor was finally cast on Thursday and the carpenters returned to work today, Monday. We are now two weeks late from the schedule but the guys are telling me that they can catch up. May be, but the floor has to dry up before any tiles and parquettues can be laid on top of it. Looks like I have to postpone those works until beginning of August.

Tässä kuvassa rakennetaan sitten jo makuuhuoneita talon toiseen päähän. Väliseinien pitäisi olla niin pitkällä perjantaihin mennessä, että keittiötoimittaja voi tehdä tarkemittaukset.

The carpenters started to build the bed room walls today. The interior walls have to be so far ready by Friday that the kitchen people can come and check the measurements for their delivery of cupboards etc.

Katto päällä ja sisätyöt aloitettu - Roof installed and interior works started

Ehtipä vierähtää aikaa Villa Koivurannan päivitysten välillä. Oli tähdellisempää viettää niin paljon aikaa kuin mahdollista isän kanssa ja käydä katsomassa häntä päivittäin sairaalassa. Rakennustyöt edistyivät siitä huolimatta ammattimiesen turvin.
Vesikatto saatiin päälle ilman suurempia sateita, mutta räntää ja rakeita kyllä satoi A-Tiilen miesten selkään. Onneksi seinät oli suojattu muoveilla ja tiilien latominen kävi nopsasti, joten rakenteet eivät päässeet kostumaan.
Välikaton alaslaskut on tehty ja nyt lattiaa valmistellaan valua varten. Valun piti alkaa 17.5. mutta ollaan noin viikon verran jäljessä aikataulusta.

Time has flown from the previous update on Villa Koivuranta building blog. It was more important for me to spend as much time as possible with Dad and to attend to him at home and in the hospitals. The construction works continued well with the professional equippe.
The roof was laid in hail and wet snow fall but the men were brave and completed the works swiftly so that the structures did not get wet. They were covered by plastic sheets anyway, so all went well finally.
Ceiling structures have been completed and now the floor insulation, under-floor piping, electrical works and floor heating are being installed in preparation for casting the cement surface of the floor. The casting was scheduled to start on 17th May but we are one week late in the works.

Kattotuolit asennettu - roof structures completed

Kattotuolit saatiin asennettua paikoilleen maanantaina 12 huhtikuuta ja tänään tiistaina tulee tiilikuorma. Kattotiilien asennus alkaa keskiviikkona.

Placing of roof structures was completed on Monday 12 April and the roof tiles are delivered today. Their installation starts on Wednesday.

Ulkoseinät asennettu - outside walls installed

Ulkoseinät toimitettiin tänään ja nostettin paikalleen suoraan kuormasta. Kolme perävaunullista saapui aamu-seitsemästä lähtien ja ilta kuuteen mennessä homma oli tehty. Ulkoapäin tämähän alkaa näyttää jo talolta, mutta sisällä sitä rahaa vasta palaakin.

Vaikka tilaa on yli hehtaarin, niin perävaunun kääntämiset piti tehdä nosturin avulla.

Takkamestarin kanssa oli tänään ensimmäinen tapaaminen. Työmaakäynti sovittiin ensi maanantai-iltaan.

Pre-fabricated walls were delivered today and lifted directly to their places from the trailers. Looking from outside, the site starts to look like a house already. Nonetheless, much more money will be burnt to get the inside done.

Eventhough there is more than one ha, the space got too tight for the trucks and the trailers had to be turned using the heavy weight crane.

Today I also had first negotiation with a brick-layer from whom I intend to get a goof bid to build the open fire place. Meeting on the site was scheduled for Monday pm next week.

Kattotuolien toimitus - delivery of roof structures

Vaiheen kaksi, eli varsinaisen talon pystytys alkoi tänään 7.4.2010 kattotuolien toimituksella. Huomenaamulla jo ennen seitsemää tulee seinäkuorma ja seinien pystytys alkaa saman tien.

Sähköurakan kävin allekirjoittamassa Terawattin kanssa eilen. Ilmanvaihto- ja vesi-viemäriurakat ovat sopimuksen allekirjoitusta paitsi. Lattiavalu on tarjouskierroksessa, mutta saatiin vain yksi tarjous. Keittiötilauksen vahvistin tänään puhelimitse ja huomenna käyn allekirjoittamassa tilausvahvistuksen.

Lunta on vielä aika paljon maassa, mutta aurinko haihduttaa ja sade sulattaa. Vanhaa taloa lämmitin tänään varovasti muutamalla pesällisellä takassa ja hellassa. Toistaiseksi asustan Sirkan luona, mutta enköhän vapun aikoihin jo tarkene yöpyä Koivurannassa. Säistä riippuu.

Tästä se alkaa kuuden kuukauden hektinen aika. Jännittää melkoisesti, mitä kaikkea kommellusta ja vastoinkäymistä jälleen edessä onkaan.

Phase two of the construction started today 7th April with delivery of the roof structures. Walls will be delivered early tomorrow morning (before 7 am they told me) and will be transferred directly from the truck to their final places.

Yesterday I signed the contract for electrical works and finalised the kitchen design with all cupboards and equipments, order to be signed tomorrow. Ventilation and water&sewage work contracts have been awarded and are pending signature. Tender process for floor foundation (cast layer which comes under the wooden flooring) terminated before Easter but we got only one offer.

As you can see from the pictures, we still have some snow but the sun shine will get it evaporated and the forecasted rain will melt the rest. I was warming up the old house by keeping fire in the owen and in the open fire place. For the time being I am staying at my sisters place but hope to move into the old house by 1st May.

A busy time for me for the next 6 months. I'm excited and terribly anxious about all the hiccups which are waiting for me around the corner.

Perustus on melkein valmis - the foundation is just about getting completed

Aika labyrintiltä tämä näyttää ja hirveän korkealta jalustalta, mutta autojen tasosta päätellen on autotallin lattia maanpinnalla eikä taivaissa tai montussa. Ontelolaatat on Petrin mukaan seuraavat asennukset. Hän on tilannut lattian alle tulevat stryroxit, joilla nyt ensin suojataan perustus talvea vastaan. Styroxien päälle tulevat kuormalavat ja niiden päälle pressut. sitten vaan toivotaan, että ei ole hirveitä pakkasia ja perustus pysyy kasassa kevätlämpimille.

The foundation looks like a labyrinth and it seems to come quite high up, but concluding from the cars on the parking place, the future garage is still on the earth surfice and does not rocket to the skies or sink into the rocks. The pre-fab concrete slabs are the next ones to be laid on top of the foundation. Then it is done and will be covered by styrox and wheather-proof sheets for the winter. that having been done there is nothing more than to keep fingers crossed that the frost will not be too harsh and the foundation travels well to the first warming sun beams of the spring.
